Building Partnerships with Local Communities
At Upper Hand International, we believe that sustainable development can only happen when local communities are active partners in the process, not just recipients of aid.
Our Partnership Approach
1. Community Consultation
Before any project begins, we spend time understanding the specific needs and challenges of each community. We hold meetings with village elders, women’s groups, and youth to gather diverse perspectives.
2. Local Involvement
We train and employ local residents for pump installation and maintenance. This creates jobs and ensures that communities have the skills to maintain their water systems long after we leave.
3. Ownership and Sustainability
Each community forms a water committee responsible for managing the pump, collecting modest maintenance fees, and coordinating repairs. This ensures long-term sustainability.
Success Stories
In the past year alone, we’ve seen:
- 15 communities form active water committees
- 30+ local residents trained in pump maintenance
- 100% of our installed pumps still operational after one year
The Road Ahead
We’re committed to expanding this model to more communities across Thar. With your support, we can bring clean water to thousands more families while empowering local communities to be stewards of their own development.
